So I was asked by the good folk at broadsheet.com.au to head down and photograph Andrew McConnell’s new place, Supernormal on the second night of it’s soft opening. I’d already photographed the pop-up test kitchen last year, and was quite impressed.. So of course I said yes, and my partner and I dropped in on Saturday night.

At Supernormal Canteen, I photographed the food at a bench next to the window, and had my flash outside firing in (it was night time). I did it birds eye view, because I love the idea of telling the story of an experience. Andrew’s food is always full of colour and lovely textures. I thought it’d be interesting to shoot it as close to the same way as I did last time, to contrast the test kitchen to the real thing.
